Bellarine Hot Sauces offers delicious mild chilli to the dangerously superhot varieties of sweet chilli sauces, jams, relishes and chutneys.

While we offer the superhot varieties it is still important that we produce chilli sauces that have tons of flavour and not just heat.

Our chilli products are suitable for vegetarians, vegans and are gluten-free.

ABOUT THE MAKERS

With a passion for everything chilli, husband and wife team, Sharren and Stephen Jeffs created Bellarine Hot Sauces from their Patch on the Bellarine.

What started out as a hobby of growing organic chillies eventually led the duo to sell their unique chilli preserves at local markets around Geelong and the Bellarine Peninsula. You can also find them at some annual chilli festivals.

Sharren and Stephen pride themselves on their organic growing method with no pesticides used on their products. The whole chilli range is started by seed and progressed through to the greenhouse and finally the raised beds.

Their favourite chilli to grow is the Rocoto chilli as they love the cool climate here in Victoria. They do a plumĀ  sweet chilli sauce as well as a rocoto jam, and every summer a rocoto tomato chilli sauce.

A variety of chillies are grown every year so they can offer limited edition sauces as well as their standard crops.

WHAT’S YOUR LIMIT?

The Scoville Scale was originally developed by Wilbur Scoville. This test was created as a way to determine the heat level of a large range of chilli.

The way in which this scale works is if a chilli rates at 10,000 Scoville Heat Units, then the oil obtained from the extract must be diluted 10,000 times before the heat is dissipated.

In essence, this test measures the amount of capsaicin in each chilli as this is the natural chemical that makes your tongue, throat burn and your body sweat.
